Motivational Interviewing Training for Practitioners, Teams and Organisations
Develop practical Motivational Interviewing skills through experiential training designed for people working across health, social care, mental health, substance use, education, criminal justice and related services.
Training is available online and face to face across the UK and Ireland, from introductory workshops through to advanced skills development, mentoring and organisational programmes.

What to Expect from Motivational Interviewing Training
Motivational Interviewing is not learned simply by reading about techniques. Training works best when participants have opportunities to hear MI demonstrated, practise skills, reflect on their own conversations and receive constructive feedback.
My workshops combine concise theory with demonstration, guided practice, discussion and real-play activities based on participants’ own professional contexts.
Experiential
Participants practise core MI skills rather than spending the day listening to presentations.
Relevant to Practice
Activities and conversations are linked to the real challenges participants encounter in their work.
Focused on Skill Development
Training supports movement from understanding MI concepts towards using them with increasing confidence and flexibility.
Introduction and Advanced Motivational Interviewing Training
Different learners need different levels of support. Training can provide an introduction to MI or help experienced practitioners deepen and refine their skills.
Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
Introductory workshops explore the relational foundations and core skills of MI, including engagement, reflective listening, responding to ambivalence, recognising change talk and guiding conversations about change.
Explore Introduction to MI training →Advanced Motivational Interviewing
Advanced programmes help practitioners move beyond understanding MI towards increasing proficiency through deliberate practice, structured feedback, mentoring and refinement of relational and technical skills.
Explore Advanced MI training →PHA-Funded MI Training
\nPublic Health Agency-funded Introduction and Advanced MI programmes are available for eligible practitioners in Northern Ireland, with separate application arrangements for general and organisation-reserved cohorts.
