Motivational Interviewing for opioid and stimulant use disorders
Roy explores how Motivational Interviewing can support people experiencing opioid and stimulant use disorders. The discussion considers the role of MI spirit, medication treatment, harm reduction and the challenge of helping when a person is engaging in behaviour that may carry a serious risk of harm.
A key theme is managing the fixing reflex while maintaining compassion and professional responsibility. Roy also discusses focusing, adaptations of MI for stimulant use and reducing practitioner burnout. These themes connect with the Fixing Reflex, Focusing and Compassion.
