Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidence‐based and patient‐centered approach to encouraging changes to habits, most typically targeting health risk behaviors including substance misuse and addictions, treatment adherence, diet, or physical activity. MI eschews education, professional advice, and persuasion in favour of conversational strategies designed to elicit the patient’s own concerns, intentions, and reasons for change.
This three-hour on-line experiential seminar, exploring the key elements of Motivational Interviewing, is designed for everyone who wants to develop and enhance their understanding and skills in supporting others to make health and lifestyle changes.
You will be introduced to The Spirit of MI, the attitude that informs the Motivational Interviewing practitioner’s intervention and conversational style. Using The Core Skills of MI, you will have the opportunity to practice the questioning and listening skills so significant in the success of every helping conversation. In recognising and understanding the flow of best practice and successful interventions The Four Processes of MI will assist you be more engaged and supportive for your clients.
